## Guide

### 1. Laundry day

This is a front\-loading washing machine, the kind with a round glass door\. Every part works: tap the door, the drawer, the dial or the red button\. Drag any empty space to turn the room\.

A typical home machine is about 85 cm tall and 60 cm wide\.

### 2. Load the clothes

Tap a piece of clothing on the floor to toss it in\. The round door swings open on its hinge, and the clothes land in the metal drum inside\. Most home drums hold 7 to 10 kilograms of laundry\.

### 3. The detergent drawer

Tap the little drawer at the top left to slide it open or shut\. Soap goes here, not straight into the drum\. When the wash starts, water rushes through the drawer and carries the soap down to the clothes\.

The drawer has separate pockets for washing powder and fabric softener\.

### 4. Choose a programme

Tap the round dial to click through the programmes, or pick one below\. Each programme changes how long the drum tumbles and how fast it spins\. Gentle ones look after wool and delicate fabrics\.

### 5. Start and stop

Press the red button to start the wash, and press it again to stop\. The door locks while the machine runs, so no water can spill out\. Watch the water: it only fills the bottom of the drum\.

### 6. Tumble, then spin

First the drum turns slowly, about 50 times a minute\. Its paddles lift the clothes and drop them back into the soapy water\. Then it spins fast, up to 1,400 times a minute, flinging water out through tiny holes\. That fast spin is what makes the machine shake\.

### 7. Magic folding

When the cycle ends, the machine chimes and the door unlocks\. Here the clean clothes hop out and fold themselves onto the shelf\. In real life, that last part is your job\!

### 8. Fresh and folded

Inside the cabinet, the drum's tub hangs on springs and shock absorbers that soak up most of the shaking\. Tap a folded piece to drop it back on the floor, or send the whole pile back for another load\.
