### 1. Welcome to the tennis court

Tennis is a game where two players hit a fuzzy ball over a net with rackets\. This little court is ready to play\! Drag an empty spot to look all around\.

A real tennis court is 23\.77 metres long, about as long as five cars parked in a row\.

### 2. Lines show where to aim

The white lines mark the edges of the court\. The ball must land inside them\. If the ball touches a line, it still counts as in\!

Two players use the inner side lines\. Four players \(called doubles\) use the wider outer lines\.

### 3. The net in the middle

The net splits the court into two sides, one for each player\. Look closely: it dips lower in the middle\. Every shot has to fly over it\.

A real net is 91 cm high in the middle and 107 cm at the posts\.

### 4. The fuzzy yellow ball

A tennis ball is hollow rubber covered in fuzzy felt, with a curvy white seam\. Drop it and watch: each bounce goes only about half as high as the one before\.

Dropped from 254 cm, a real tennis ball must bounce back up between 135 and 147 cm\.

### 5. Your racket

A racket has a long handle and a round head filled with criss\-cross strings\. The strings stretch and spring back, which sends the ball flying\. Tap the racket to swing it\!

A grown\-up's racket can be up to 73\.7 cm long\.

### 6. Your turn: hit it back\!

The ball machine sends you a ball\. Let it bounce once, then tap the ball or your racket while the ball glows\. Can you send it back over the net?

The scoreboard counts every ball you hit back\.

### 7. Keeping score

Tennis counts points in a funny way\. Zero is called love, then come 15, 30 and 40\. Win one more point and you win the game\!

Win six games to win a set\.
