### 1. Meet the T1

Welcome to the gallery\. On the turntable stands the T1, a small electric scooter with a seat, made for short trips around town\. We'll visit its lights, battery, motor, Performance pack and seat\. Drag anywhere to walk around it\.

The T1 shown here is a concept model, so its numbers are design values for this gallery\.

### 2. Pick a colour

Every frame tube and the head unit share one paint colour\. Choose a colour and the T1 changes live\. Tyres, fork, battery cover and seat stay black whatever you pick\.

Pearl matches the photo the model was built from\.

### 3. Lights to see and be seen

The octagonal head holds a ring of LEDs: light\-emitting diodes, tiny lamps that glow when electricity flows through them\. Switch on night mode to see the beam light the floor ahead and the red tail lamp glow behind the seat\.

LEDs turn far more of their energy into light than old filament bulbs, so they hardly drain the battery\.

### 4. The battery: a box of small cells

The black panel under the seat hides the battery\. Inside stand 104 cylinder cells, each about as wide as a thumb\. Thirteen groups linked in a chain add up to about 48 volts, and the glow shows the pack filling as it charges\.

One lithium\-ion cell gives about 3\.7 volts\. Thirteen in a row make roughly 48\.

### 5. A motor inside the wheel

The orange cable carries power from the battery to the rear wheel\. The motor lives in that wheel's hub: copper coils stay still while a ring of magnets turns with the wheel around them\. Slide the throttle to change the speed\.

When you slow down, the motor can work as a generator and send a little energy back to the battery\. This is called regenerative braking\.

### 6. The Performance pack

Fit the Performance pack to see what changes\. Bigger drilled brake discs go on both wheels, with red brake callipers, red springs on the rear shock and a small windscreen\. Bigger discs give the brakes more metal to grip, so the scooter can stop more strongly\.

The holes help a brake disc shed heat and water\.

### 7. The interior: seat and cockpit

On a scooter the interior is everything you touch: the two\-part bench seat, the handlebar grips and the mat on the deck\. Choose a trim and all three change together\. The small screen behind the headlight shows speed and battery\.

### 8. Your T1

Lights, battery, motor, brakes and seat all work together in one small machine\. Your colour and trim stay on the T1, so walk around it once more\. An electric motor turns most of its battery's energy into motion, far more than a petrol engine manages\.
