## Guide

### 1. Meet the 52200 bed

This is the OASIS Model 52200, a care bed made for nursing homes and rehab centres\. It looks simple, but four motors let it sink, rise, sit up and bend\. Let's see how each move helps the person in it and the people who care for them\.

Drag anywhere to turn the room\.

### 2. Low to the floor

At its lowest, the deck is only 7 inches \(18 cm\) off the floor\. That is why it is called a low\-profile bed\. Low beds are used so that a roll out of bed becomes a short, gentler drop\.

7 inches is about the length of a new pencil\.

### 3. Up to caregiver height

The same bed climbs to 30 inches \(76 cm\), close to kitchen\-counter height\. Caregivers can then wash, dress or turn someone without bending over\. Slide to try any height in between\.

### 4. Scissor legs and four motors

Lift the mattress away and the trick appears: an X of steel links at each end that folds like scissors\. A lift motor at the head and another at the foot push those links\. Two more motors tilt the backrest and the knee section\.

A grey control box under the deck sends power to all four motors\.

### 5. Sit up, knees up

The backrest is a hinged part of the deck that tilts from flat up to 65 degrees, steep enough to read or eat\. Then the thigh section rises up to 35 degrees, bending the knees so nobody slides toward the foot\.

The side rails are optional extras that ride along with the backrest\.

### 6. Eight buttons, four moves

The hand pendant has up arrows on the left and down arrows on the right\. Each row runs one move: backrest, knees, both together \(called auto contour\), or the whole bed's height\. Pick a row to see it work\.

It hangs on the footboard here so it is always within reach\.

### 7. Three lengths

Tall residents need more room, so the bed can grow\. The board frames slide out of the deck ends and click in at the 84 or 88 inch mark, then turn knobs underneath hold them\. The bed stays 35 inches wide\.

### 8. Lock the wheels

Small 3\-inch casters let staff roll the bed into place\. Stepping on the red pedal locks it, and the green pedal unlocks it again\. A locked bed stays put while someone climbs in or out\.

The wheels are for positioning the bed, not for moving a person around\.

### 9. Ready for a good night

Back down low and flat, the bed is ready for the night\. It is rated for a resident of up to 400 pounds, and its motors run at no more than 52 decibels, quieter than normal conversation\. Simple moves that keep people safe and comfortable\.
