### 1. Times tables

Type the answer on the keypad and press Check\. Stuck? Press Show solution to see the times table as rows of squares, split into two easy pieces\.

Splitting off a 5 helps: 5 times a number is half of 10 times it\.

### 2. Two digits times one digit

Now the first number has tens and ones\. Work it out, type your answer and press Check\. The solution splits the number into tens and ones and multiplies each part\.

Multiplying the tens part first gives a good estimate of the answer\.

### 3. Two digits times two digits

Both numbers have tens and ones\. The solution draws an area model: split both numbers, find the four smaller products, then add them up\.

To multiply tens by tens, multiply the digits and then add two zeros: 50 times 20 is 1000\.

### 4. Three digits times one digit

A bigger number, the same idea\. Split it into hundreds, tens and ones, multiply each part and add the three products\.

Check that your answer is close to the hundreds part times the other number\.

### 5. Mixed practice

Questions from every level, in any order\. Press New question for the next one\. Try each one yourself before you look at the solution\.

The column method that you learn later uses the same pieces\. It just writes them more compactly\.
