# Seaga EnVision ENV5B Vending Machine: Buy a Coke and See Inside

The EnVision ENV5B is a can and bottle vending machine from Seaga\. Put in coins, key in a selection and watch the spiral coil turn until a drink drops into the bin\. The machine's own display shows your credit and change, and you can look inside at the coils, the drop sensor, the coin mechanism and the cooling\.

## Guide

### 1. Seaga EnVision ENV5B drinks vending machine

A glass\-front spiral \(coil\) vending machine modelled on the Seaga EnVision ENV5B\. Cans of Coca\-Cola, Pepsi, Sprite, Dr Pepper, Fanta and Lipton Iced Tea stand in steel coils\. Pay, punch a code and the coil turns once to drop the front can\. Drag empty space to turn the view\.

Simplified to 4 trays of 6 coils; the real ENV5B has 5 trays and 40 selections\. Cabinet time runs 20 times faster\.

### 2. Pay in

Click the coin slot to drop in a $1 coin, or the note slot to feed a $5 note\. The coin mechanism checks each coin's size and metal, the bill validator scans the note and the display shows your credit\.

The ENV5B bill validator takes $1 to $20 notes and comes set for $1 and $5\.

### 3. Punch a code

Each column's price tag carries its code: a tray letter and a column number\. Press a letter, then a number, or click a can behind the glass\. The display names the drink and its price\.

Rows A and B cost $2\.00, rows C and D $2\.50\. CLR clears a half\-typed code\.

### 4. The coil turns and the can falls

A gearmotor behind the tray turns the coil exactly one revolution, stopped by its home switch\. Each turn of the spiral holds one can, so the row moves forward and the front can tips off the edge\.

The fall is slowed to half of real gravity so you can follow it\.

### 5. The drop sensor

Seaga's guaranteed delivery: infrared beams cross the drop zone, and you are charged only when a falling can breaks one\. If none does, the coil turns again, then the credit is refunded\.

In a snag the can hangs on the coil end; the retry pushes it off and often a second can too\.

### 6. Take your drink and change

Click the delivery flap, then the can\. It comes out at about 4 °C, so water from the room air condenses on it\. Click the coin return cup to collect any change\.

### 7. Coin mechanism and change tubes

Accepted $1 coins drop into a change tube; the $1 and 50 cent tubes pay out change\. Notes go to the stacker, surplus coins to the cash box\. The return button pays back unspent credit\.

### 8. Keeping it cold

The compressor pumps R\-290 refrigerant through the condenser, whose fan blows the heat out\. In the evaporator it boils, and a fan sends cold air over the cans\. A thermostat holds 3 to 5 °C; the dial shows the cabinet\.

A warmer room makes the compressor run longer\. The ENV5B leaves the factory set to 43 °F \(6 °C\)\.

### 9. Sold out and restocking

The controller counts the vends from every coil\. An empty column shows Sold out and keeps your credit for another choice\. The route driver refills the coils and resets the counts\.
