## Guide

### 1. A squeegee and a sliding door

A squeegee is a soft rubber blade held in a metal channel, with a handle\. Pulled across wet glass, it wipes the water off in one clean sweep\. Switch on the realistic view to see the real colours, then drag the background to look around\.

Squeegees are sized by blade length\. This one is 30 cm \(12 inches\)\.

### 2. Clean the track first

Start at the bottom\. Grit in the sliding track gets picked up by the water and smeared back onto clean glass\. Vacuum or brush the track, then wipe it with a damp cloth\.

Never oil the track\. Oil holds dust; a dry silicone spray keeps the door gliding\.

### 3. Wet the whole glass

Soapy water loosens dust and spots so the squeegee can carry them away\. Wash the whole pane with a soft strip washer or sponge, edge to edge, and keep it wet\.

A few drops of dish soap in a bucket of water is plenty\. Clean on a cloudy day so it does not dry too fast\.

### 4. Hold it at an angle

Start in a top corner, about 2 to 3 cm from the frame\. Tilt the handle so the blade meets the glass at roughly 45 degrees, and press lightly and evenly along its whole length\.

Only the thin edge of the rubber should touch the glass\. That edge is what wipes\.

### 5. Pull an S across the glass

Sweep across the top, then turn the blade at the edge and come back a little lower, like a snake\. Each pass overlaps the last by about 3 cm, so no thin lines of water are left between them\.

Keep the blade moving through the turns\. Stopping leaves a curved mark\.

### 6. Wipe the blade each pass

Water and grit collect on the rubber edge\. Wipe it with a dry towel after every pass, or the next pass draws a streak\.

A nicked or hardened rubber edge streaks too\. Blades are cheap to replace\.

### 7. Try it yourself

The glass is wet again\. Drag the squeegee across it and watch the dry path open behind the blade\. Overlap your passes and work from the top down\.

Press on the squeegee to grab it\. Drag anywhere else to turn the view\.

### 8. Dry the edges and sill

A thin line of water always stays where the glass meets the frame\. Run a dry towel round the edges and along the sill, and the window is done\.

Use only mild soap on the frame and seals\. Strong cleaners such as ammonia can harm the rubber\.
