## Guide

### 1. Shimano 105 Road Bike: Change the Rear Wheel

A Shimano 105 R7000 road bike with rim brakes and a quick\-release rear wheel sits in a Park Tool PCS\-10\.3 stand with a flat tyre\. Take the wheel out, refit it, watch the chain run through the derailleur and pump the tyre up\. Drag the highlighted part the way it moves, or tap it\. Tap any other part to name it\.

Bikes with thru\-axles or disc brakes come out differently: check your own bike first\.

### 2. 1 · Shift to the Smallest Cog

Turn the pedal forward and click the small inner paddle of the right ST\-R7000 lever until the chain sits on the 11\-tooth cog of the CS\-R7000 cassette\. The derailleur is then out of the way\.

### 3. 2 · Open the Brake

Lift the small release lever on the BR\-R7000 rear brake\. The dual\-pivot arms spread so the inflated tyre can pass between the pads\.

### 4. 3 · Open the Quick\-Release Lever

Swing the quick\-release lever on the left side fully open\. Its cam lets go of the dropouts; the cutaway shows the cam and the hollow axle the skewer runs through\.

### 5. 4 · Unscrew the Nut

Hold the lever and unscrew the nut on the drive side a few turns, enough to clear the small lips at the ends of the dropouts\.

### 6. 5 · Pull the Derailleur Back

Pull the RD\-R7000 derailleur body backwards with one finger\. Its short cage swings forward and the chain lifts clear of the cassette\. The cutaway opens the cage to show the chain round both pulleys\.

### 7. 6 · Drop the Wheel Out

Keep the derailleur back and let the wheel drop down out of the dropouts, then ease it forward past the chain\.

Off the bike, the tube is patched and the tyre refitted\.

### 8. 7 · Refit the Same Wheel

The same wheel goes back in, its tube now patched\. With the derailleur still pulled back, hook the chain over the smallest cog and lift the wheel up into the dropouts\. Then let go of the derailleur\.

### 9. 8 · Seat and Centre the Axle

One end of the axle has stopped short of the top of its slot, so the rim leans against a brake pad\. Push the rim straight until both ends sit fully home and the rim is centred between the pads\.

### 10. 9 · Snug the Nut

Turn the nut back in by hand until the open lever just starts to feel resistance halfway through its swing\.

### 11. 10 · Close the Lever

Swing the lever closed\. It should resist from halfway and need a firm push at the end, leaving its imprint on your palm\. Too easy: open it, tighten the nut a little and close it again\.

Closed, the lever points back or up, clear of the frame, so nothing can snag it open\.

### 12. 11 · Close the Brake

Push the brake release lever back down so the pads sit close to the rim again\.

### 13. 12 · Turn the Cranks

Drag the chain round, tap it for two turns, or switch the cranks on\. The chain runs off the 11\-tooth cog and round both RD\-R7000 pulleys\. Stop, and the wheel coasts on while the freehub pawls tick\.

### 14. 13 · Spin and Check

Flick the tyre forward and watch the rim pass the pads: it should run true with no rub\. The ticking is the hub pawls riding over the ratchet\. Try a badly seated axle to see the difference\.

### 15. 14 · Pump the Tyre Up

Turn the wheel until the valve is near the pump, press the pump head on, flip its lever and pump\. Stop at the pressure printed on the tyre wall: here 95 psi, 6\.6 bar\.

Check the rated range on your tyre; never go over its maximum\.

### 16. Done

The wheel is back in, clamped, centred and pumped up\. Squeeze the rear brake lever once to check the BR\-R7000 grips the rim, then ride\.
