### 1. Meet Remy

This is Remy\. Remy is gay, which means he falls in love with other men\. He has a tiny house, an almost empty jar and a big question: how do you become rich? Follow his story to find out that there are two kinds of rich\.

### 2. Pay yourself first

On payday, before spending anything, Remy drops a small slice of his pay into his jar\. Money put aside like this is called savings\. Bills and treats still get paid, but the jar always comes first\.

Small amounts add up when they go in every single payday\.

### 3. Money that makes money

Remy moves his savings into a bank account that pays interest: a small reward for keeping money there\. Next year he earns interest on his interest too\. This snowball is called compound interest\. Slide the years and watch his money tree grow\.

The Rule of 72: divide 72 by the yearly interest rate to see roughly how many years money takes to double\. At 9% a year, about 8 years\.

### 4. Time does the heavy lifting

Say Remy saves $100 every month for 30 years\. He puts in $36,000 himself: the short stack\. If it grows about 7% a year, it becomes roughly $122,000: the tall stack\. Starting early matters more than starting big\.

Real returns go up and down from year to year\. 7% is an average used here to show the idea\.

### 5. Rich in friends

Money is only one kind of rich\. Remy's friends become his chosen family: people who choose to love and look after each other like family\. Many LGBTQ\+ people build one, and it can be the greatest treasure of all\.

### 6. Proud together

Every June, Remy and his friends go to Pride, a joyful celebration of LGBTQ\+ people\. The first Pride march was in New York on June 28, 1970, one year after the Stonewall uprising\. Raise the rainbow flag to join in\.

Artist Gilbert Baker made the first rainbow flag in 1978\. It had eight colours; the six\-stripe version became the most common\.

### 7. Love that grows

At a friend's party, Remy meets Theo, and they fall in love\. In 2001 the Netherlands became the first country to let two men or two women marry\. Now Remy and Theo share a home, a jar and a life\.

The first of those weddings took place just after midnight on April 1, 2001, in Amsterdam\.

### 8. Two kinds of rich

Years later, Remy helps a young neighbour start a jar of their own\. Being rich, he learned, means enough money to feel safe and free, and people to share it with\. Save a little, start early and keep your friends close\.
