## Guide

### 1. Welcome to Zhejiang University

This is a model of Zijingang, the largest campus of Zhejiang University, or ZJU, in the city of Hangzhou, China\. Step by step you will see where it began, how big it is and what it could offer you\. Drag the scene to look around\.

Zhejiang is the province; Hangzhou is its capital city, where ZJU stands\.

### 2. Where it began: 1897

ZJU started in 1897 as Qiushi Academy, a small school in Hangzhou\. Qiushi means "seeking truth"\. The traditional hall here, with red columns and dark tiled roofs, recreates that academy on today's campus\.

The motto today: "Seeking Truth and Pursuing Innovation"\.

### 3. Four universities become one

In 1998 four universities in Hangzhou joined together: Zhejiang University, Hangzhou University, Zhejiang Agricultural University and Zhejiang Medical University\. That is why ZJU teaches almost everything, from engineering and medicine to farming and the arts\.

### 4. Seven campuses

ZJU has seven campuses\. Five are in Hangzhou, among them Zijingang, the main campus, and Yuquan by a wooded hill\. Haining, near the coast, hosts international programmes, and Zhoushan, on an island, studies the ocean\.

Haining runs joint institutes with the University of Edinburgh and the University of Illinois\. Map positions are approximate\.

### 5. A campus built around water

Zijingang opened in 2002\. Its white teaching buildings sit around lakes and lawns lined with willows, and students walk or cycle between classes\. Watch them stroll along the lakeside path\.

Campus life here mixes study, sport, clubs and a lot of bicycles\.

### 6. Big, and broad

ZJU has 41 colleges and schools: one blue flag here for each\. More than 28,000 undergraduates and 41,000 graduate students study here, including over 4,700 international degree students from more than 150 countries\.

A college is a part of the university that teaches one family of subjects\.

### 7. Libraries and research

Eight libraries hold more than 8\.2 million volumes\. ZJU belongs to the C9 League, a group of nine leading Chinese research universities\. In the 2026\-27 U\.S\. News Best Global Universities list it ranked 35th in the world\.

Rankings change every year, so compare several lists\.

### 8. Is ZJU a good fit for you?

When you compare universities, think about the subjects you love, the city, the teaching language, the cost and the support for new students\. Students in China usually enter through the gaokao, the national university entrance exam; international students apply to ZJU directly\.

Rules and dates change each year: check ZJU's official admissions pages before you apply\.
