## Guide

### 1. Grand Final night in Gosford

It is 25 May 2024 at Central Coast Stadium, on the shore of Brisbane Water\. The Central Coast Mariners, in yellow, play Melbourne Victory, in navy blue, for the A\-League Men title\. A record crowd of 21,379 has packed the ground\.

Win tonight and the Mariners complete a treble: three trophies in one season\.

### 2. A nervy first half

Victory start brightly\. Daniel Arzani's shot clangs off the post, and just before half\-time goalkeeper Danny Vukovic blocks him from close range\. It is still 0\-0 at the break\.

Four yellow cards were shown during the match, but no red cards\.

### 3. 50' Geria's stunning strike

Five minutes after half\-time, Victory defender Jason Geria shoots from the edge of the penalty area\. Spin bends the ball into the top corner\. Victory lead 1\-0\.

A spinning ball drags air around with it and is pushed sideways, so its path curves\. This is called the Magnus effect\.

### 4. 90\+1' Edmondson rescues the Mariners

Substitute Ryan Edmondson came on at half\-time\. In the first minute of stoppage time, Josh Nisbet slips a pass into space and Edmondson calmly beats goalkeeper Paul Izzo\. It is 1\-1, so the final goes to extra time\.

Extra time is two more halves of 15 minutes each\.

### 5. 97' Di Pizio, aged 18

Ronald Barcellos squares the ball across the penalty area and teenager Miguel Di Pizio sweeps it in\. The Mariners lead 2\-1 for the first time\.

Di Pizio became the youngest goalscorer in a national\-league grand final\.

### 6. 120\+1' Edmondson seals it

Victory push players forward to find an equaliser, leaving space behind them\. The Mariners break away and Edmondson scores his second goal with almost the last kick\. It is 3\-1\.

Edmondson won the Joe Marston Medal as the best player in the final\.

### 7. Every goal, mapped

From above you can see where each goal was struck and the path the ball took\. Move the slider through the match to watch the scoreline change minute by minute\.

Gold paths are Mariners goals and blue is Victory's\. Exact shot spots are estimated from match reports\.

### 8. A historic treble

The Mariners are champions\! They had already won the Premiers' Plate for finishing top of the league, and the AFC Cup in Asia\. They became the first Australian club to win a treble\.

It was also their second championship in a row\.
