## Guide

### 1. Meet Tank Robot

Tank Robot is a controller made by 2AK that keeps watch over fuel tanks, like the big ones buried under a petrol station\. It hangs on a wall indoors and shows everything on a 10\.1\-inch touchscreen\. Drag the scene to look around\.

The tank beside it is a 1:5 cutaway model; the controller is shown at full size\.

### 2. A probe with two floats

A long steel rod called a probe stands in the middle of the tank\. Two rings slide on it: the upper float rides on the fuel and the lower float sinks through fuel but floats on water\. A tiny pulse runs down the rod and finds both floats, so the controller knows both levels\.

This kind of probe is called magnetostrictive\. The OPW 924b probe measures fuel and water levels to 0\.05 mm\.

### 3. Counting every litre

From the levels, Tank Robot works out how much fuel is in the tank, by volume and by mass\. Sensors spread along the probe measure the fuel's temperature, so it can allow for fuel expanding when it is warm\. When a tanker fills the tank, it notices the delivery by itself\.

It also measures water at the bottom of the tank and warns about low or high fuel and high water\.

### 4. A guard between two walls

Many fuel tanks have two steel walls, with a thin space between them\. A small sensor waits at the bottom of that space\. If liquid ever gets in, the sensor notices and Tank Robot raises the alarm: its screen turns red and an outside light flashes\.

Alarms can also switch two relays, send an email, or send a text message with an optional GSM module\.

### 5. Safe by design

Fuel vapour can catch fire from a tiny spark, so the controller stays indoors, away from the tank\. Inside it, ISM4 barriers limit the electricity sent to the probes and sensors, so it is too weak to ever make a spark\. The screen panel swings open on its right\-hand hinge\. Tap it to open or close it\.

Up to two ISM4 barrier modules fit inside, each with four channels\. Measurement settings are locked behind a sealed switch\.

### 6. Reports on paper and online

Tank Robot has a built\-in printer for reports, deliveries and tank status\. You can also open it from any web browser on a computer, so the station's staff can check their tanks from far away\.

The manual does not show where the printer's paper comes out; the slot on top is illustrative\.

### 7. One controller, many tanks

One Tank Robot can watch up to 12 probes and 12 sensors, and add\-on modules let it watch even more\. It runs on ordinary mains power and keeps working from \-30 to \+50 °C, day and night\.

Specification table: 230 V 50 Hz, 50 W, two control outputs, remote access through a web browser\.
