## Guide

### 1. Frame Assembly Guide

Here is everything for a wooden picture frame: four sides, four corner plates, eight small screws, glass, a picture in its card mount and a backing board\. You also need a cross\-head screwdriver\. Tap any part to see its name\.

Glass edges can be sharp: let a grown\-up carry the glass\.

### 2. 1 · Lay Out the Sides

Lay the four sides face down so their angled ends meet at the corners\. Each end is cut at 45 degrees, so two ends together make a perfect right angle\. This joint is called a mitre\.

The step cut along the inside back edge is the rebate\. It will hold the glass and picture\.

### 3. 2 · Place the Corner Plates

Lay a flat L\-shaped corner plate across each joint, one arm on each side\. The plates hold the corners square while you screw them down\.

### 4. 3 · Drive the First Screw

Put a screw in a plate hole and turn it clockwise with the screwdriver until the head sits snug on the plate\.

Stop when it feels firm\. Turning too hard can split the wood\.

### 5. 4 · Drive the Other Seven

Drive the other seven screws the same way, two in every plate\. Now the four sides are one solid frame\.

### 6. 5 · Lay In the Glass

Clean the glass, then lower it flat into the rebate\. It rests on the narrow ledge around the opening\.

Hold glass by its edges so fingerprints stay off the middle\.

### 7. 6 · Add the Picture

Turn the picture face down and lower it onto the glass\. The cream card around it is a mount: it keeps the picture from touching the glass\.

### 8. 7 · Fit the Backing Board

Lower the backing board on top\. It fills the rebate to the brim, so it sits level with the back of the frame\.

Look for the small maker's stamp printed on its back\.

### 9. 8 · Turn the Buttons

Swing each of the four brass turn buttons clockwise until it lies over the board\. They press every layer gently against the front\.

### 10. Done

Turn the frame over and admire your picture\! Layers from front to back: frame, glass, mount, picture and backing board\.

To hang it, fix a hook or hanger about a third of the way down the back\.
